We just got sick of being so hot down in the valley so we ran up to Flagstaff for a couple days of cooler weather and hiking.
Due to the Schultz Fire and subsequent flooding some trails were closed, so we concentrated on ones around Snowbowl.
The Sunset Trail was nice, but very rocky. Trying to make sure you don't twist your ankle keeps you from taking a lot of photos, but at least it was cool.
The next day we did the Brookbank Trail (more rocks) and then Veit Springs Trail (also known as the Lamar Haines Loop). Although this wasn't a strenuous trail it was our favorite - the old cabin, well house, petroglyphs, and nice cool breezes.
Sunset Trail Sign
It was brisk and breezy when we started off
Still a lot of flowers blooming all around
Rocks. Lots and lots of rocks on this trail
Once you get to the top you can wander off to some nice grassy areas and enjoy the quiet
These yellow flowers carpeted huge areas along the roads
This is a view from along I-17. Flowers as far as you can see
On to the Veit Springs Trail. A bit of history about Lamar Haines
Lots of ferns growing along part of the trail
Pretty Aspens
Trees are your major sight along this trail
This is the Ludwig Veit cabin.
The cabin was deliberately shortened to prevent people from entering and wrecking it
Ah, the little well house in the woods
Guess they couldn't shorten this structure, and it is hard to wreck stone
If you scramble up a ways you find this lovely cliff with the pictographs
The wavy lines represent the two streams
On the trail out we saw this lovely gold lounge chair attached to a pole. Yes, I know it's a bit odd.
